About WattSwitch
WattSwitch is a free whole-of-home energy savings calculator built for Australian homeowners who want clear, data-driven guidance on the best energy upgrades for their home.
Why we built this
The average Australian household could save thousands of dollars a year on energy — but figuring out which upgrades are worth it is confusing. Should you get solar first, or insulation? Is a heat pump hot water system worth it if you already have gas? What rebates are you actually eligible for?
Most online calculators only cover one product (usually solar) and are built by companies trying to sell you that product. We built WattSwitch to be different — a tool that compares every major upgrade option side-by-side, ranked by your personal ROI.
How we make money
We believe in full transparency about our business model. The calculator is completely free — no sign-up, no paywalls, no premium tiers. Here's how we sustain the business:
- Installer referrals:When you click "Get Quotes" and connect with an installer through us, we may receive a referral fee from the installer. This never costs you extra — it's a standard industry practice.
- We don't sell your data: Your personal information is never sold to third parties. Period.
- No bias:Our recommendations are based purely on the numbers. We don't favour any installer or product brand.
Our data sources
All calculations are based on publicly available data from government agencies and industry bodies:
- Clean Energy Regulator (STC zones and values)
- NatHERS (climate zones and insulation R-values)
- State energy retailer pricing data
- Solar Choice Price Index
- energy.gov.au efficiency guidelines
- State and federal rebate program documentation
We update our data regularly, but rebate programs and pricing can change. Always verify current availability before making a purchase.
